Jonathan Mitchell, PhD

Core Faculty

Jonathan Mitchell, PhD is a core faculty member at the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE) at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and an assistant professor of pediatrics in the division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Mitchell’s program of research is focussed on sleep, energetic behaviors, and their impact on physical growth and development in childhood. He uses epidemiological methods to: 1) describe variation in sleep and energetic behavior profiles; 2) determine associations between energetic behaviors and growth outcomes in childhood; and 3) investigate gene-behavior interactions and their impact on growth outcomes in childhood. Dr. Mitchell also designs behavioral interventions using the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) framework, with an emphasis on engineering digital health solutions to promote sleep and physical activity in children.
