Core Faculty

Fran Balamuth, MD, PhD, is a core faculty member at the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE), an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, and an attending physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine at CHOP.

Dr. Balamuth has been a key institutional leader in pediatric sepsis and is a rising national leader in pediatric sepsis recognition and care. She has played a key role in developing and implementing a clinical practice guideline to care for patients with suspected sepsis at CHOP. She has also worked collaboratively with sepsis leaders throughout the institution to create a comprehensive prospective registry for patients with suspected sepsis, which allows us to track sepsis epidemiology and outcomes at CHOP. Dr. Balamuth currently sits on the steering committee for the American Association of Pediatrics Sepsis Quality Improvement Collaborative and the national task force for the development of pediatric sepsis guidelines through the Society for Critical Care Medicine.
