Canita Brent, MPH
Canita Brent is a Senior Clinical Research Project Manager at the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE) and the Division of General Pediatrics at CHOP. She currently works with Dr. Christopher Bonafide on studies related to patient safety and de-implementation science. Having worked on some of the University of Pennsylvania's most cutting-edge clinical trials, Canita brings a depth of expertise and experience to clinical trial management. Canita most recently helped lead the University of Pennsylvania's global, multi-site gene therapy trial for individuals with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and worked on studies in the field of lipoprotein metabolism, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. In addition to her clinical research background, she also has experience as a successful grant writer and public health specialist.
Canita spent the former part of her career focused on improving the quality, access, and affordability of healthcare in Africa. She served as a global health fellow with Johns Hopkins University and has lived and worked throughout sub-Saharan Africa, partnering with government and community leaders to help improve pediatric and adult health outcomes. Canita earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Health from Georgetown University, a Master’s of Public Health from Tulane University, and a post-baccalaureate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
