Sophia Jan, MD, MSHP

Core Faculty

Sophia Jan MD, MSHP is a core faculty member at the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness and PolicyLab at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), a pediatrician for children with special healthcare needs at CHOP, and a general internist at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. She is also an instructor of pediatrics in the Division of General Pediatrics and a senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Jan’s primary interest is improving the health and quality of life for children and adults with complex chronic conditions and disabilities. Her work includes policies and models of care related to children with special healthcare needs transitioning to adult-centered care. She is also interested in testing policies and interventions that improve the ability of children and adults with disabilities to remain in community-based settings during both emergencies and for long-term care.

Dr. Jan received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 2005 and completed her residency in Dual Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2009, where she was chief resident. From 2009 to 2012, she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania and earned her Masters in Health Policy Research (MSHP).
